Surveillance is a weapon. Consider that cameras do is similar to a gun, just the reverse. A camera records instances of a person's movements and keeps them in archival form. Each person is totally new, dynamic in each moment. We should not be held to the standards of our past actions. Mortals learn from mistakes, and should not have a record that permanently stigmatizes them to their past behavior. The presence of cameras implies the people who are being surveilled are being treated as guilty before innocent. In prisons, cameras are commonplace. Why are they so commonplace outside of prisons if one is to be treated as innocent before proven guilty?
